Happy Holidays, here’s a game against UMass!
Northeastern has a Tuesday night non-conference game against UMass this week because who needs to make sense? The Huskies will look to avenge the loss to the Minutemen earlier this season when losses were the new black. I expect a Northeastern win out in Amherst. As much as we all like to poke fun at the Northeastern’s dysfunction, UMass is on a whole other level.
The Minutemen sport the conference’s worst defense and are somehow posting even more penalty minutes per game than the Huskies. Their goalie, freshman Henry Dill, ranks dead last in Hockey East for both save percentage and goals against average, though he did post 42 saves in the earlier game at Matthews. UMass has won just one game in the past month. But hey, according to their website all they do is win!
One potential game changer UMass has up their collective sleeve is the addition of Brandon Montour. Montour has left the Waterloo Black Hawks to join the Minutemen and is eligible to play after not clearing for NCAA hockey for the first semester. He was the 2013-14 USHL Player of the Year and Defenseman of the Year and was drafted in the second round of this past NHL draft by Anaheim. Montour is known as a very offensively talented defenseman. Regardless of his presence, the Huskies should be able to get a win against a pretty bad UMass team in Amherst and head into the break continuing this positive ride.
